There Are Some Places a 900-Foot Cruise Ship Can't Go

Coastal regions are beautiful, but to see some of the most interesting cities and sights, you need to explore further inland. That's why Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises created cruisetours, a combination of an exciting cruise vacation and land tour that allows you to experience all that your vacation destination has to offer. Take in the scenery, local flavor, cultures and historic landmarks all while traveling by deluxe motorcoach or train and staying in some of the finest and best-located hotel properties. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity offers cruisetours to Alaska, and the land portion of your cruisetour can be taken either before or after your cruise.

To learn more about cruisetour destinations and packages, call us today.

What is a cruisetour?

A cruisetour is a vacation package that combines a cruise with an escorted land tour. It affords you with the time to explore the best of both worlds, and it is the only way to fully experience Alaska!

All of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises Alaska Cruisetours are 100% escorted by  knowledgeable Adventure Specialists. Choose from 21 Alaska Cruisetour packages, ranging from ten to fourteen nights, including your 7-night Northbound or Southbound Alaska cruise. See moose, caribou, grizzlies and eagles up close while traveling by custom, luxurious glass-domed traincars, the Wilderness Express® and deluxe motorcoaches. Packages are offered before or after your 7-night Alaska cruise and nineteen of  twenty-one Alaska cruisetour packages include travel on the Wilderness Express®.

Your cruisetour price includes:

  • Cruise portion: Onboard accommodations, meals and 24-hour room service, nightly entertainment and port charges.
  • Land portion: Ground transportation by deluxe motorcoach, glass-domed trains, or both; accommodations at convenient hotels and lodges, baggage handling, some meals and activities.

Why choose a cruisetour over just a cruise?

  • Value: Top activities, amenities, and destinations are packaged together for the best prices.
  • Convenience: Ground transportation, accommodations, entertainment, and more are all included in one simple reservation.
  • Time: A cruisetour makes the most of your time in Alaska by helping you see and do as much as possible while you’re there.
  • Flexibility: Free time on your own alternates with group excursions, plus knowledgeable guides help you customize your itinerary.

What are some not-to-be-missed sights?

  • Denali National Park: Many of our hand-picked cruisetours make a stop in this extraordinary six-million-acre preserve (bigger than the state of Massachusetts). Expert guides lead the way to awesome Mount McKinley, point out a grizzly tending to her cubs, and teach about the delicate sub-artic tundra. Other activities include flightseeing. river rafting, dog sledding, and much more.
  • Glacier Bay National Park: Stretching northward from Alaska’s Inside Passage to the Alsek River, this 3.3-million-acre area teems with flora, fauna, and wildlife. It is the perfect place to hear the thunderous sounds of a calving glacier and witness the creation of mammoth icebergs.
  • Kluane National Park: If you’re the type of traveler who prefers to veer off the beaten track, then this is the park for you. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is home to five of the seven tallest peaks in North America.
  • Kenai Fjords National Park: A fjord is a narrow inlet of sea between cliffs or steep slopes and many are concentrated within the Kenai Peninsula. This scenic region is a great place to spot bald eagles, sea otters, whales, and explore the town of Seward.
  • Inside Passage: Located in the southeast region of the state, the Inside Passage is home to several national parks and is lined with towns popular with cruise passengers, including Ketchikan, Haines, Juneau, and Skagway.
  • Talkeetna: This quaint mountaineering town, located in the shadow of Mount McKinley, sits at the junction of three rivers. It’s a great launch point for an awe-inspiring flightseeing trip, a breathtaking hike, or world-class salmon fishing.
  • Fairbanks: Here, you can check out Alaska’s cultural and natural history, visit upscale galleries, shop for native crafts, bask in the late-night sun on a hot-air balloon ride, or pan for gold. This town is also known as one of the best places on earth to view the Northern Lights, which are sometimes visible in late August.

When can I go on an Alaska cruisetour?

The Alaska cruise season begins in May and ends in September. The longest and usually warmest days fall in June and July. No matter when you travel, it’s best to dress in layers. You might bundle up for a glacier trek one day and dress in shorts for a bike ride through Ketchikan the next.

What type of stateroom should I reserve?

A balcony stateroom is the best way to enjoy privacy, space, and freedom. Thankfully, today’s modern ships are built with balconies in mind. Have a cup of coffee while watching a pod of Orca whales swim by. Get out the camera as a calving glacier cracks and crashes into the sea. Roll out of bed and enjoy your own personal view of Alaska’s constantly changing landscape. With your own balcony, you won’t ever have to compete for deck space or a lounge chair.

The Wilderness Express®
Nineteen of twenty-one Alaska Cruisetour packages include train travel onboard the Wilderness Express®, our luxurious, glass-domed traincars. Reasoning suggests that more glass means better viewing, so when they designed their traincars they had one goal in mind: to make them the most luxurious and spacious glass-domed traincars in Alaska. Enjoy wide leather seats; all seats recline, face forward or rotate in pairs to allow guests to form seating groups. Head to the Observation Platform for some fresh Alaska air or to get a closer view of a moose in the wild. The Wilderness Express® also has a wheelchair lift from the lower level to the dome level so everyone is able to experience Alaska's amazing scenery and wildlife together.

Deluxe Motorcoaches

Your Alaska Cruisetour package will include transportation on land by the newest fleet of deluxe motorcoaches in Alaska. You'll travel on specially designed Prevost motorcoaches - complete with television monitors, adjustable air vents, plenty of overhead storage, and foot rests - that will take you to your next destination in pure comfort. And the best part about traveling by motorcoach on your cruisetour is that you will have the same driver and motorcoach throughout the entire trip, so you'll never have to worry about your luggage, camera cases or sweaters. Everything will be there, whenever you need it.

Plus, an Adventure Specialist will give you an inside perspective on the scenery you pass. He or she will be able to point out the many natural wonders and explain the area's history and culture. It's an insider's perspective on some of the most fascinating places on earth.
