According to Cruise Reviews Online: In many respects, the appeal of cruising over other forms of travel is universal. The convenience of only having to unpack once, knowing where you will be dining each evening, regardless of what country or port you visited that day, and the myriad of onboard activities and entertainment available are all enticing features. For seniors, however, the value of a cruise compared to other forms of travel is of special interest. Many seniors are on fixed incomes and there simply is no better value in travel today than a cruise.

Wayne Hagadone, President of Cruises for Seniors says, "Many of our clients are interested in the ship's enrichment activities, ranging from lecturers in culinary arts, computers, photography, to history, and archaeology." He continues, "In fact, some may not even get off the ship. For these folks, shipboard amenities such as a spa, fitness facilities, the casino, interesting enrichment courses and evening entertainment are the most important features they look for."

How do I qualify for a Senior Discount? Passengers who meet certain age requirements may be eligible for special discounted rates. At least one passenger in your stateroom must qualify to receive the discount. One passenger in your cabin must be 55 or older to qualify for Senior Citizen Cruise Rates. Reduced senior prices are offered only on selected sailings, not every sailing, nor on all cruise lines

Money Saving Tip: Are you traveling with a senior? Did you know as long as you have at least one person in the cruise cabin that is 55 or above, You get the senior rate too! ...Are you traveling as a family? Be sure to book one senior in each room to increase your savings.

Check with The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP ) They have deals offered by Expedia to increase member's savings.

Contact The American Automobile Association (AAA) They have chapters in each state and these individual offices offer discount travel rates for its senior members.

Browse the cruise line offers direct through their website. Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Princess cruises ( and others ) offer senior discounts and last-minute cruise deals that can save seniors money.

Use Cruise Direct Online. A website touted as The Ultimate Cruise Traveler's Search Engine, specifically designed to save you time and money. Cruise Direct Online offers discounts for senior citizens, through their Travelocity Partner Network found at the website.

Search for websites that specialize in senior cruises and/or discounts on group travel. Many offer free cruises for the group's organizer.

Passengers who have sailed with a particular cruise line in the past may be eligible for an additional discount, special past guest rates and member benefits not available to first-time cruisers.

Passengers who are residents of certain States may be eligible for additional discounts from the cruise line.

Cruise Booking Tips:

When you search for a cruise sort results by price (low or high), cruise line, cruise destination, cruise length. And don't forget to check the ship reviews, rankings and rating.

Look for the cruise lines that offer BONUS extras such as FREE cabin upgrades, on-board spending credit, pre-paid gratuities and more.
