How long is a Canadian passport valid?
Your Canadian passport is valid for 5 years. However, you must ensure it
is valid for at least 6 months past your dates of travel. If your
passport is expiring in less than 6 months, you should renew it before
leaving Canada.

Who can I use as references on my passport application?
Any two persons who are NOT relatives and have known you for at least 2
years.
How long will it take to get my passport after I apply?
Processing times vary depending on the volume of applications. The
average time for a mailed-in application is 4 weeks. If the application
is submitted in person at the passport office, it may take around 2
weeks.
Do I need to send in my birth certificate when applying for a passport
renewal?
No, you do not. However you must send in your current passport.
Who can act as my guarantor?
A person who currently holds a valid Canadian passport and who has known
you for at least 2 years.
What is a guarantor?
A guarantor is someone who has known you for at least two years, holds a
valid Canadian Passport and must be 16 years of age when their passport
was issued.
What if I do not have a birth certificate?
To be eligible for a Canadian Passport you must have proof of Canadian
Citizenship. This includes a birth certificate issued by a province and
Citizenship card.
If you have lost your citizenship card, what do you do?
You must obtain a new one by contacting www.cic.gc.ca
How long is a passport valid for?
A Canadian Passport is valid for five years.
Do I need a passport?
Yes, if you are traveling by air or by car to the U.S. or
internationally you must have a passport. If it is within Canada is it
recommended.
Can I apply for a passport at a consulate or embassy?
If your passport was lost or stolen you can visit the closest consulate
where they may issue a temporary one so may travel back into Canada.
Are Canadian passport photos the same as U.S. passport photos?
No. The photo size, coloring, and image may differ.
