Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Anchorage

Your Tour Director will welcome you to Alaska! Transfer to your downtown hotel and get your first taste of Alaska in the nearby shops and museums.

Day 2 Anchorage/Denali National Park

Today you’ll board our McKinley Explorer, the largest domed railcars on the historic Alaska Railroad route, an Alaska Scenic Byway. Sit back and relax in the observation lounge and watch magnificent scenery glide by. Upon arrival at Denali National Park, transfer to the finest lodge and spend your afternoon and evening at leisure. Optional adventures abound.

Day 3 Denali National Park

Your EXTRA DAY at Denali National Park begins with an early morning departure for the Denali Tundra Wilderness Tour. Enjoy 6-8 hours of narrated touring with a driver-guide as you travel 53 miles of the Park Road for great wildlife viewing. Caribou, moose, grizzly, wolves and Dall sheep are frequently sighted. And dramatic Mt. McKinley viewpoints are afforded from several lookouts including Stony Hill Overlook. Later, return to your lodge to relax or take your choice of optional activities.

Day 4 Denali National Park/Fairbanks

This morning, sip an espresso by the fire. Relax over breakfast at your choice of eateries and browse the wildlife exhibits and souvenirs at the Gift Shop. Later, reboard the McKinley Explorer, en route to Fairbanks. Then check into your downtown hotel and enjoy a relaxing night in Alaska’s second largest city.

Day 5 Fairbanks/Tok

Depart this morning for a tour of Fairbanks. You’ll see the sights, including the TransAlaska Pipeline on your way to Gold Dredge No. 8, a National Historic Site. View the mining exhibits, pan for gold and then enjoy a hearty miner’s lunch in the authentic dining hall. The Alaska Highway travels the deep backcountry of Alaska. Today’s discussion by your driver and Tour Director will focus on life above the Arctic Circle and the local wildlife as you sightsee to Tok.

Day 6 mv Yukon Queen II/Dawson City

Travel the Taylor Highway to the Alaskan village of Eagle, a National Historic Site for a tour with a resident guide. You’ll embark our mv Yukon Queen II catamaran for a cruise up the Yukon River through a wilderness that goes on forever. Arrive this evening in Dawson City, Yukon Territory. Enjoy an overnight stay in the heart of this, the Klondike National Historic Site.

Day 7 A Day in Dawson City or Tombstone Park

There are two major excursion themes: Tombstone Park and the Klondike Gold Rush. At Tombstone Park, join local interpreters and explore marvels two billion years old. This remote region is the ancestral home of North America’s earliest peoples and a full range of wildlife roams free. Those who stay in Dawson City can enjoy a tour of the gold fields famous from the Rush of 1898.

Day 8 Dawson City/Whitehorse

Sightsee along the Klondike Highway past Five Finger Rapids on the Yukon River. Arriving in Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon, you’ll check into your downtown hotel. Tonight, take a stroll into town and kick up your heels at the uproarious Frantic Follies Vaudeville Revue.

Day 9 Whitehorse/Skagway

Today’s discussion by your driver and Tour Director will focus on the region’s natural and gold rush history. Board the nostalgic White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad and descend through some of Alaska’s most spectacular country. In Skagway you’ll have the rest of the day to explore Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.

Day 10 Skagway/Sail

Say "good-bye" to your Tour Director and transfer to your Holland America cruise.

Day 11 Glacier Bay National Park cruising

Calving glaciers are the star features as you spend a full day exploring Alaska’s best glacial attraction, with a backdrop of 15,000-foot mountains. Onboard today will be a National Park Service ranger and a local Huna native storyteller to explain the significance of this protected wilderness.

Day 12 Ketchikan

Besides the main attractions – Creek Street, the Tongass Historical Museum, Totem Bight State Park and Saxman Village – there’s one other thing we highly recommend you do. A flightseeing trip to breathtaking Misty Fjords National Monument is essential.

Day 13 Inside Passage Cruising

Whether with a massage in the Greenhouse Spa, a cooking lesson in the Culinary Arts Center or a game of chance in the casino, you’ll discover exciting daily activities and elegant service.

Day 14 Disembark in Vancouver

Who will enjoy CruiseTour 4 most?

The Unhurried Traveler: "Take your time to see the natural wonders of the Great Land" is our motto. Spend twice as much time at Denali National Park, a full day in Glacier Bay National Park, extra time for Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, plus Tombstone Park near Dawson City for comprehensive exploration.

The History Buff: You will retrace the route of the great Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 from the shores of Skagway to the Gold Fields of Dawson City in the Yukon Territory.

The Railroad Lover: Between Holland America Line’s new McKinley Explorer luxury domed railcars and the White Pass & Yukon Route’s narrow gauge trip back in time, this tour includes 3 days riding the rails
