line of choice for travelers seeking a truly refined and
casually elegant travel experience.

to explore the world in unequalled style and comfort.

is extremely convivial, and with more than 400 staff
members at your disposal, you will experience a level of
personalized service that is unrivaled.
You will enjoy the flexibility of four open seating
restaurants; you dine when, where and with whom you
choose. Their 5 Star menus are crafted under the
meticulously watchful eye of renowned master chef
Jacques Pépin, Executive Culinary Director.
Overall, Oceania has managed to create a luxury
experience -- particularly in the areas of cuisine and
service -- at a mid-market price point. Ultimately, the
company offers one of the industry's best
value-for-money options in cruising.
At 30,277 tons and with a 684-passenger occupancy,
Regatta, Insignia and Nautica fall firmly in the
mid-ship size range, ( small ship size by 2009 standards
) but offer the wide range of
amenities and options usually found on deluxe-priced
lines.
Decor is traditional luxe, with the requisite polished,
dark mahoganies, muted fabrics and rich-colored carpets.
Service is enthusiastic as well as gracious, courtesy of
a well-trained staff.
Insignia, Regatta,
Nautica
These ships features big-ship amenities, and carries 684
guests and 400 staff members. From the moment you enter
the ship's grand neo-classical reception hall, you'll
enjoy a "country club casual" atmosphere where you can
spend time at sea as you please, and days in port guided
by the expert knowledge of the ship's Destination
Services staff.
Flanked by two whirlpools and a bar, the main pool
sparkles in the sun on the teak-lined deck. Inviting
lounge chairs and a golf cage beckon from the sun deck.
An outdoor jogging track tempts workout buffs, as does
the fitness center. At the Oceania Spa by Mandara,
guests can indulge in the Thalassotherapy whirlpool and
massage rooms.

Dining is a highlight, with the gourmet culinary program
in the four open-seating restaurants overseen by Jacques
Pepin, a celebrated chef and author of 19 cookbooks.
White-glove service and hand-painted frescoes prevail in
the main dining room. Dark woods complement
floor-to-ceiling windows in the ship's steakhouse, The
Polo Grill. Toscana serves regional Italian cuisine, and
the Terrace Cafe serves up Spanish-style appetizers al
fresco each evening. When the lights go down, guests are
invited to step into the ship's casino, show lounge with
live entertainment, martini bar, or any of the other
friendly places to gather onboard.

SHIP SIZE AND LEVEL OF LUXURY MAKE
A DIFFERENCE The beauty of these ships are
their ability to offer enough sophisticated amenities but at the
same time priced for a range of travelers, from those who
consider suites and butlers necessary amenities to those who
value luxury without the high price. In this case, cruise ships
that offer great value.
The other defining characteristic are the new category, or
niche, of cruises, dubbed "Deluxe." or Upper Premium. "Deluxe
aka Upper Premium," is positioned squarely in the middle between
"Premium" (e.g., Celebrity) and "Luxury" (Crystal, Regent,
Silversea for example) both in terms of ship size and level of
luxury.
It's sort of a country club feel,
with low-key ambience; few organized activities; limited
entertainment; a casual, sporty dress code; an emphasis on cabin
comfort; and long itineraries that favor smaller, less-visited
ports. The line's prices are competitive with -- and often even
lower than -- those of the other premium lines. The size of
these gorgeous ships make it possible to get to know your fellow
cruisers and the staff onboard; It's that personal interaction
more than anything else onboard that sets these small-ships
apart from today's mega-liners. These ships evoke a contemporary
take on a more refined, bygone tradition of cruising. They

BACKGROUND
INSPIRATIONS features 8
cruise ships, originally dubbed the "R-Ships" that
were all built and sized the same, for Renaissance
Cruises which was founded in 1989, and ceased operations
in September of 2001.
The R1 and R2, both built in 1998, became part of
Oceania Cruises
and renamed them Insignia and Regatta, respectively.
A
3rd Renaissance ship, the R5, was renamed Nautica.
Princess acquired the R3 and R4 and renamed them Pacific
Princess and Tahitian Princess, respectively. Both ships
were originally built in 1999. The Tahitian Princess
will be renamed the Ocean Princess in 2010.
Built in 2000, the R6 and R7, now sail for a brand new
cruise line, Azamara Cruises, as the
Azamara Quest and
Azamara Journey Azamara is owned by Royal
Caribbean/Celebrity.
Last, but not least, the R8, built in 2001, now sails as
the Royal Princess. All the ships have
undergone extensive upgrades.

AZAMARA CRUISES
A brand-new cruise line
joined the ranks in 2007 when Celebrity Cruises
announced Azamara, a brand new cruise line featuring the
30,777-ton, 794-passenger boutique ships :
Azamara Journey and
Azamara Quest
Azamara competes primarily with Oceania Cruises. Azamara
is billed as a "deluxe" cruise line (typically, cruise
fleets are described as bargain, mass-market, premium or
luxury; deluxe fits in between premium and luxury).
At the heart of the differences between Azamara and
parent Celebrity are the Azamara vessels themselves.
Azamara Journey and
Azamara Quest
smaller size and high crew-to-passenger ratio
produce a more personalized and attentive level of
service than their large cousins. Other aspects onboard
represent embellishments over those same aspects on
Celebrity's ships. Butlers, for example, a perquisite of
suites elsewhere, come with every stateroom, from the
lowliest inside to the biggest, most luxurious suite.
Onboard lifestyle is more contemporary, with all meals
in all restaurants served open seating, and an upscale
casual dress code.

Azamara Quest,
Azamara Journey
Representing a new class of the ships,
Azamara Quest and
Azamara Journey offer a
traditional cruise experience in a more
intimate environment. With just over 700 passengers and
one staff member for every two guests, everyone onboard
enjoys comfortable, sophisticated, and upscale
surroundings, plus well-appointed accommodations. What's
more, every stateroom on board can take advantage of
butler and concierge service. Weighing in at 30,277
pounds, the ship also features spa treatments by Elemis
and award-winning gourmet cuisine. Onboard the 593-foot
vessel, passengers will find a wide array of public
rooms and activities. Seek tranquility in expert hands
at the Sensory Heaven Spa, where treatments range from
therapeutic massage and skin-tingling facials to aroma
stone therapy and reflexology. Passengers can also enjoy
swimming pools and fitness facilities, as well as an
Internet Café where they can send emails and photos to
friends and family back home. Gourmet dining takes place
in the main dining room and in the ship's specialty
restaurants, all of which feature cuisine made with the
freshest ingredients, and all up to Celebrity's
award-winning standards. Michael's Club is an inviting
place to sit down and enjoy the sounds of the grand
piano with a single-malt scotch or late-evening
nightclub. There is also the Martini Bar, where 20
varieties of the cocktail are served up according to
specifications.

PRINCESS CRUISES
Princess acquired three
30,277-ton, 670-passenger ships. Tahitian and its
sister-ships Pacific Princess and Royal Princess from
Renaissance Cruises where they were three of eight
near-identical mid-size ships. ( small ships in
comparision by today's mega-liners who house 2500-4000
passenegers ) Having sailed on modern Princess ships
including Sapphire and Crown, I found that the size of
this gorgeous ship made it possible to get to know the
staff onboard; almost all would stop what they were
doing to say hello, whether I was passing by with my
laptop and coffee first thing in the morning, or coming
back onboard from a day ashore drenched from the
humidity. It's that personal interaction more than
anything else onboard that sets Tahitian Princess apart
from its larger fleet mates.
The small cruise ships of Princess evoke a contemporary
take on a more refined, bygone tradition of cruising.
Each sparkling vessel carry around 700 mostly adult
passengers in a relaxed, sophisticated style. Welcome to
the Small Ships of Princess — Royal Princess, Pacific
Princess, and Ocean Princess. Truly a different kind
of escape.
Tahitian Princess
-
Ocean Princess ,
Pacific Princess,
Royal Princess
At 594 feet long, these ships carry only 670
cruise-goers. This Explorer-class ship offers all of the
luxuries, amenities, and services of today's
mega-liners--without the crowds. While onboard,
passengers enjoy Personal Choice cruising options and
features.
