PRINCESS NEWS
Star and Caribbean
Princess®
Shine
Anew
Recently, Star and Caribbean Princess each set sail
after three-week dry docks that dramatically
transformed several spaces onboard. The updated
piazza style atriums now feature an array of dining
and entertainment opportunities, including the
popular International Café. They also have an
expanded Vines wine bar concept, featuring more than
30 wines by the glass. Meanwhile, on the top deck of
each ship, adult passengers can now enjoy a massage
in a cabana and relax in the tranquil environment of
The Sanctuary, Princess’ innovative, adults-only
retreat.
Onboard
Star Princess, our trademark Times Square-style,
300-squarefoot Movies Under the Stars® poolside
screen is now in place and
features a variety of films, concerts and special
events daily. Guests are also sure to notice several
additional upgrades, including a new Internet Café
and library area, enhanced onboard boutiques and new
LCD flat screen televisions in all staterooms.
Two new
Pacific Coast sailings. We’re excited to announce
the addition of two new convenient sailings aboard
Sapphire Princess® at the end of her summer 2009
Alaska season. The new sailings include a 4-day
Alaska Sampler roundtrip cruise from Vancouver on
September 19 and a 3-day Pacific Coastal cruise from
Vancouver to Los Angeles on September 23.
Princess receives prestigious awards.
The Cruise Critic Editor’s Picks Awards
were announced recently and Princess came away a
big winner once again. These awards honor the
world’s top cruise lines for outstanding
performance in 10 areas, and Princess won the
“Best for Romance,” “Best for Weddings” and
“Best Multi-Generational” categories. We’re also
proud to have been chosen by the travel agent
readers of Recommend magazine as the “Best
Cruise Line – Itineraries” for the fifth year in
a row. The honor, part of the magazine’s 12th
Annual Reader’s Choice Awards, recognizes our
dedication to bringing passengers to fascinating
destinations around the world. Additionally,
we’re excited that the readers of Travel Weekly
have, for the fifth time in the last six years,
named Princess “Best Cruise Line in Alaska.”
New
season of Hawaiian Islands sailings captures the
soul of the region As Golden Princess® begins
her season of sailings
to the Hawaiian Islands, passengers on the ship
will be able to feel the aloha spirit of Hawaii
like never before. The culture, traditions, arts
and tastes of the island paradise will be
highlighted throughout the cruises with
demonstrations by local artisans, ukulele
lessons and regional cuisine among the
captivating onboard experiences. These events
will give guests a deeper understanding of the
islands and the people who live there.
The Romance Of Rail
Travel
in ALASKA
Find: More about
Alaska Cruises and Cruise tours.
Travel On the Trails of History
Many a
romance story has featured characters traveling by
train, and the theme was central to some of the
earliest silent films, such as Kiss in the Tunnel
(1899) and A Romance of the Rail (1903). American
adventure novelist and playwright Rex Beach even
covered this subject matter with a touch of local
flavor in his 1913 novel, The Iron Trail: An Alaskan
Romance. Indeed, the famed Alaska Railroad has
intrigued travelers for over a century. The Alaska
Central Railroad began construction on this highly
ambitious project in 1903. 20 years later, the final
link was built and the railroad has been a major
attraction for visitors ever since.
The
Perfect Partnership
Today, you have the opportunity to discover the
allure of this legendary mode of Alaska travel for
yourself. Princess® has partnered with the storied
Alaska Railroad to bring you into the heart of the
Great Land onboard exclusive railcars, a highlight
of every Princess cruise tour. You can step off your
ship and immediately be swept away in a glass-domed
railcar through this National Scenic Byway. You’ll
be treated to awe-inspiring views in every direction
and possibly catch brown bears, caribou, moose and
Dall sheep, among others, in their natural habitat.
Princess
goes the extra mile on every rail journey with
onboard guides who offer live, in-depth narration
all along this fabled route, pointing out notable
scenery and untamed wildlife. You can also enhance
your experience with our authentic Signature Alaskan
Cuisine such as Sockeye Salmon BLTs, Alaskan King
Crab Cake Sliders, Reindeer Chili and so much more.
Select
cruise tours also feature Direct-to-the- Wilderness®
rail service, which takes you from your ship to
Denali in just one day. By arriving at Denali a day
earlier than other cruise lines, you get more time
to explore this stunning park and its many
inhabitants. You also have the added benefit of at
least two nights at our Denali Princess Wilderness
Lodge,® or Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge®
(or a combination of both), where among the many
amenities you’ll enjoy are unparalleled panoramas
from expansive outdoor decks.
A
One-of-a-Kind Adventure
Princess Rail combines the nostalgia of the Alaska
Railroad with the benefits of traveling with the
Alaska cruise vacation leaders. That means on cruise
tours you can expect to be treated to the same
exceptional service every step of the way — from
ship to train to lodge — making your Alaska
experience completely seamless.

Treasure the
experience of traversing
the PANAMA CANAL
It is a route that had been
dreamed of for centuries, a canal cutting through Central America connecting
the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Now, nearly 95 years after opening to the
seafaring public, the passion of innovation and adventure still runs deep at
the mighty locks of the
Panama Canal.
History Made Every Day
A journey through the Panama Canal is just as thrilling today as it was back
in 1914, when a cement boat piloted by Captain John A. Constantine made the
first official transit. In the years since, it is estimated that more than
one million ships have passed through what is widely considered to be one of
man’s greatest engineering feats. And even with all of the recent advances
in technology and world shipping, the Canal remains a modern marvel and one
of the most vital trade routes in the world with an average of 40 vessels
passing through daily.
Visitors making a full transit
have ample opportunity to ruminate on the grandeur of this great
achievement, as it takes about nine hours to cross the 51-mile “water
bridge.” As you look out at the surroundings, you can practically feel the
fervor of the people who envisioned and were obsessed with the creation of
the Canal, from Spanish kings and conquistadors, to French leaders and five
American presidents. Sharing this experience with those close to you, or
newfound friends, makes this event even more memorable. Unforgettable sights
abound beyond the Canal, as well. The romance of the rainforest calls out to
visitors of gorgeous Soberania National Park while colonial splendors
sparkle in Panama City, and a grand escape awaits in Gatun Lake, the largest
man-made lake in the world.
Explore The Wonder
When you consider the dramatic history of the Canal and the magnitude of its
global impact, no vacation is as moving or inspiring as an epic journey
through this legendary waterway. Make your own history and experience a
crossing this year. Princess® offers three ways to view this epic sight,
including full and partial transits on 10-day cruises, and full transits on
15- to 20-day cruises that feature a 2-Day Canal Experience — a Princess
exclusive — giving you the added benefit of a day at Fuerte Amador on the
Pacific side.

If you’re
looking for a unique escape that harkens back to the
discerning ocean travel of yesteryear, you’ll find
it aboard the Small Ships of Princess® — Royal,
Pacific and Ocean/Tahitian Princess.®
Each of
these elegant vessels can carry about 680
passengers, or about one quarter as many as our
larger ships. And their smaller size means that you
never have to go far from your stateroom to
experience the variety of amenities and activities
that are available to you.
Sophisticated Pleasures
Many of those who choose to sail on smaller ships
are well-traveled and enjoy a sense of camaraderie
with their fellow guests as they share in a great
adventure. At any time of day or night, you’re
likely to encounter lively conversation and laughter
in the lounges and public spaces. Onboard one of
these exquisite vessels, you’ll revel in the sort of
experience you’d expect from a comparable small ship
line — but at a fraction of the cost.
When it
comes to dining, you’ll enjoy the classic pleasures
of Traditional Dining, which allows guests to dine
at a fixed time each evening with the services of a
dedicated waiter. Delight in fine gourmet fare equal
to that found in upscale restaurants and on luxury
cruise ships, served in our elegant dining room. Or,
if you’re in the mood for something different, try a
specialty restaurant such as Sabatini’s.
Dazzling Destinations and Diversions
Over 70 percent of the staterooms on a Princess®
small ship offer balconies, where you can enjoy
impressive views and memorable moments. Plus, these
ships have access to smaller “boutique” ports in
popular regions such as Europe and the
Mediterranean. Onboard, a fascinating array of
possibilities unfolds with each new day. From
insightful enrichment programs and soothing Lotus
Spa® treatments, to live production shows and
exciting casino gaming, there are plenty of options
to make your vacation everything you want it to be.
A
Thrilling Escape
In January, Pacific Princess® will set off on
the ultimate ocean voyage — a World Cruise. Her
107-day route features well-known cities including
Sydney, Dubai and Athens. Guests will also visit new
ports such as exotic Halong Bay, Vietnam; alluring
Sharmel-Sheikh, Egypt; and Topolobampo, Mexico, for
stunning Copper Canyon. This epic voyage aboard
Pacific Princess is the perfect opportunity for
guests to see the wonders of the world while
savoring all the delights of small-ship cruising.
Plus, shorter Segment Voyages are available for
those who want to focus on the region that most
interests them.

Captivating Coastlines and Celebrated cities of CANADA & NEW
ENGLAND
The Eastern Seaboard is famous for the stunningly vivid
colors of its fall foliage. But there are plenty of other
reasons to explore this
unique region, from historic sites and dramatic scenery to
quaint fishing villages and delicious fresh seafood. A
fall journey to this gorgeous destination is nothing short
of unforgettable.
Natural
Wonders Abound
One of Maine’s premier attractions is remarkable Acadia
National Park. Rugged cliff s, impressive stone bridges and
rustic coastal walks are key features of this 35,000-acre
natural treasure. The 27-mile-long Loop Road to iconic
Cadillac Mountain provides an entrancing scenic drive that
includes a glimpse of Thunder Hole, where the ocean waves
crash against granite cliffs with a thunderous roar. Later,
you may experience the pleasures of a traditional lobster
bake, complete with homemade clam chowder and fresh bread.
Let Freedom
Ring
Lovers of history will find countless treasures along
Boston’s famed Freedom Trail. You’ll walk in the footsteps
of patriots when you visit Boston Common, King’s Chapel and
the Old South Meeting House, where, on December 16, 1773,
the Boston Tea Party began. Not far away is the Old North
Church, the location from which Paul Revere’s famous “One if
by land, two if by sea” signal was sent.
To The
Lighthouse
One of the most picturesque scenes on the Eastern coastline
can be found in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A scenic drive brings
travelers to historic Peggy’s Cove, a charming seaside
community founded in the early 19th century, and its famous
lighthouse. The Canadian Coast Guard still operates the
iconic red-and-white station, which has provided inspiration
to countless artists and photographers over the years — so
much so that it is now one of the most recognizable
lighthouses in the world. Along with visiting the lighthouse
and Peggy’s Cove, you may enjoy strolling through Halifax’s
serene Victorian Public Gardens, or learning about the
city’s rich seafaring history at the Maritime Museum. Other
inviting destinations in Canada & New England include
French-flavored Québec City, stunning Newport and the city
that never sleeps — New York.

When you think of
love, think of Venice. Considered by many to be one of the
most beautiful places in the world, canals replace streets
in this “City of Bridges” that spans 118 small islands. It
is also the place where you can partake in one of the most
iconic romantic activities: riding a gondola between
Renaissance-era buildings drenched in the golden light of a
Venetian afternoon. Other perfect pastimes include people
watching in one of the many impressive piazzas and visiting
some of the cultural landmarks, including the gothic-style
Doge’s Palace, built between the 1300s and 1400s. Here, art
lovers will find an impressive collection including
paintings by Tintoretto and Veronese.
Romance
beckons in Venice
A guild of greatness. The long, sleek gondola is recognized
worldwide as a symbol of Venice —and of romance. So it’s no
surprise that the position of “gondolier” is one of great
pride and importance. The city awards less than 500
gondolier licenses to masses of applicants, who must be of
Venetian birth and complete years of apprenticeship
culminating in a rigorous exam. Ride with one of these
professionals and you’ll take part in a glorious heritage
that extends back 1,000 years.
The Great
allure of Greece
The Greek Isles offer countless delights and
quintessentially romantic attractions. In fact, when you
first arrive in Corfu, you may feel as though you never left
Venice. The wide green spaces of the Spianada, a large
square in the Venetian Citadel, invite you to wander. And
you won’t want to miss the music pavilion where the local
Philharmonikes (Philharmonic Orchestras) perform classical
works that reflect the artistic and musical traditions of
the island. On Mykonos, stroll through the charming streets
and explore the island’s historic Cycladic architecture, or
take some time to soak up the sun on one of the island’s
inviting beaches. And on Santorini, a visit to a taverna is
a great opportunity to unwind and enjoy pleasant
conversation over a glass of retsina — a delicious Greek
wine made from locally grown grapes.
Sophisticated
glamour of Monte Carlo
Well-known as the playground of the rich and famous, Monte
Carlo is a fascinating destination that offers something for
everyone. Here you can spend hours browsing the fine jewelry
and clothing of the city’s famed boutiques — and keep your
eyes open for celebrity sightings. You’ll also want to take
a leisurely stroll along the Avenue Saint-Martin, which
winds along the garden-lined coastal cliff s. Along the way,
be sure to see the 19th-century Monaco Cathedral, where
Princess Grace and Prince Rainier were married. And of
course, no visit to Mont Carlo would be complete without
stopping in at the stunning Grand Casino. With a blend of
the old and new, set amidst the romance of timeless cities
and enduring landmarks, the Mediterranean and Greek Isles
are perfect destinations for celebrating love and life.

Prized
islands of the Netherlands Antilles
From a distance, the warm climate, stunning beaches
and shimmering waters make the Netherlands Antilles
seem like typical Caribbean islands. But both
Bonaire and Curaçao — part of the ABC islands of the
Leeward Antilles — feature unique touches that set
them apart from the rest.
In
Bonaire, you’ll notice the difference in the
island’s rustic landscape, covered with a variety of
prickly cacti, as well as divi divi, mesquite and
acacia trees. A great way to get close to this
captivating terrain is on a guided bike tour of the
island. You’ll cruise past the blush of the pink
flamingos reflected off the beautiful Go to Lake, an
inland salt lake. Along the way, you’ll also learn
about Bonaire’s striking flora, fauna and natural
history, and enjoy a stop at the beautiful Dos Pos
Well for tasty refreshments.
Curaçao, Bonaire’s neighbor off the Venezuelan
coast, off ers architecture and ambience that has
been shaped by several diverse influences. Curaçao’s
proximity to South America translates into a Latin
flavor reflected in parts of Willemstad, the
island’s capital and only city, and a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. A favorite for couples is a charming
ride on the Willemstad Trolley Train or a
hand-in-hand stroll through the city’s narrow and
colorful streets. Here, you can discover Dutch
influences in 17th- and 18thcentury colonial
buildings that also showcase a distinct Caribbean
twist. The laid-back leisure and relaxed pleasures
of the Caribbean make it an ideal region for couples
looking to get away from it all. Among the more
popular ports are a host of intriguing seaside
havens waiting to be found.
Dominican

It's the little
touches that say "you're mine" and with Princess you can say it
all day long. Order a Princess Roses Bouquet directly to your
stateroom; the fragrant blossoms say love is in the air. Spend a
relaxing morning together at The Sanctuary, a retreat just for
adults, and indulge in an open-air massage in your own private
cabana. A refreshing dip in the pool and a fresh fruit smoothie
replenishes you — mind, body and soul. As the sun gently sets,
you'll savor an authentic dinner at Sabatini's, where classic
Italian cuisine is passionately prepared. A heavenly tiramisu
for two is a decadent finale to the meal. Your evening ends
under a cozy blanket and star-filled sky watching a romantic
film at Movies Under the Stars. |
