Table for two…thousand
As soon as you step onto one of our ships, the aromas of
tantalizing foods fill the air. Whether it's a fresh Danish
from the International Café, a slice of pizza by the pool,
or a plate of comfort food from the Horizon Court you crave,
we're ready to serve. But, have you ever wondered what it
takes to bring you, your guest, and nearly 2000 of your
fellow passengers all that food? 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week? Well, now you can see what goes into this culinary
feat.
So many of you have told us that one of the things you like
best about cruising with Princess®
is the vast selection of dining options you can find aboard
our ships. But as you can imagine, it takes a lot of food to
fill such a tall order.
Here are some fun facts to give you a picture of what's
involved:
Did you know we use nearly 550 kilos of flour on an average
14-day cruise? That's the equivalent of 1200 pounds. Which
is nearly enough flour to fill a small pool. And long before
you and your family rise for breakfast, our chefs have
already cracked open more than four thousand eggs. In fact,
we use about half a million eggs on an average voyage. This
may explain why we need more than 8000 liters of regular
milk and 4000 liters of skim milk. Although most of the milk
is used for cereal and coffee, it also goes nicely with the
warm cookies being served during the Movies Under the Stars®
viewings.
On our cruises to Hawaii, it's common for us to go through
6.5 tons, yes tons, of pineapple on a standard 14-day
voyage. This may be due to the fact that our passengers are
already in the mindset of the islands and our pineapples are
imported directly from Hawaii, which is why they're so
sweet.
As you can see, it takes quite a bit of food to make sure
that everyone has something delicious to eat. And because
our cuisine is made to order and freshly prepared from
scratch, we make sure to select the best quality. It's just
another reason why we're known as The Consummate Host.®
